Another major milestone! WeRide gets approval to operate fully driverless Robotaxi in Beijing
Beijing, June 30, 2023 — WeRide officially obtained the permit to carry out “unmanned remote stage” demonstration application in the Beijing High-level Autonomous Driving Demonstration Zone (hereinafter referred to as the “demonstration zone”). Its Robotaxi can now conduct fully driverless operations in Beijing.
In October 2022, WeRide acquired a road testing license for autonomous driving in the demonstration zone. Only 8 months later, WeRide moved into the new stage of fully driverless Robotaxi operation, setting a record in China’s autonomous driving industry.
With this license, WeRide can provide fully driverless Robotaxi services within the core area of the demonstration zone, covering 225 square kilometers. During official operation, citizens can hail a driverless Robotaxi through the WeRideGo App and arrive at designated destinations, such as subway stations, shopping malls, and office buildings.
Whether in technical innovation or commercial applications, WeRide’s Robotaxis have always been at the forefront of the industry. In November 2018, WeRide, in collaboration with Guangzhou Baiyun Taxi Group, launched China’s first Robotaxi. In November 2019, WeRide launched the nation’s first public Robotaxi service in Guangzhou, making it the earliest company to commercially launch Robotaxi services in China. To date, WeRide’s Robotaxi service has been in public operation for more than 1200 days without any proactive safety incidents.
