Consul General of France in Guangzhou, Mr. Sylvain FOURRIERE, Led a Delegation to Visit Autonomous Driving Company WeRide

On July 31, Mr. Sylvain FOURRIERE, the Consul General of France in Guangzhou, visited the Guangzhou office of WeRide, an autonomous driving company. The delegation includes two members from the Consulate General of France in Guangzhou, Ms. Camille FOURMEAU, Economic Counsellor, and Ms. Juan LUO, Investment Director. The executives and representatives of WeRide warmly welcomed Mr. FOURRIERE and his team, followed by in-depth discussions about WeRide’s technological achievements in the field of autonomous driving and its experience in global expansion.

The delegation took rides in both WeRide’s Robotaxi and Robobus. Mr. FOURRIERE shared that he had experienced WeRide’s Robotaxi service back in 2021, sitting in WeRide’s driverless vehicles again after three years impressed him with the rapid technological advancements of WeRide.

During the subsequent discussion session, WeRide presented its development history, main products, and international achievements to Mr. FOURRIERE and his team. Notably, from May 26 to June 9 this year, WeRide, together with strategic investor Renault Group and in collaboration with the French Tennis Federation, provided the only L4-level Robobus service at the 2024 French Open in Paris, making a significant impact.

Earlier, on May 15, local time in Paris, the Renault Group officially announced its future autonomous driving strategy. As a key part of this strategy, WeRide will deeply engage in Renault Group’s exploration and practice in the field of public transportation for low-carbon travel, with both parties collaborating to launch a series of autonomous low-emission microcirculation Robobus to meet the growing demand for green public transportation across Europe.

Mr. FOURRIERE praised WeRide’s international progress and inquired about the methods of cooperation advancement in various international markets, as well as WeRide’s development plans in France and throughout Europe. He also mentioned that Paris is facing challenges with traffic congestion and expensive taxi fares, believing that WeRide’s autonomous driving products and services could help alleviate traffic congestion, improve urban transit efficiency, and reduce the cost of travel for citizens in Paris and other European cities.

In the future, WeRide will continue to work with local partners in Europe to actively promote the concepts of smart, low-carbon, and green mobility, aiming to serve more local residents with autonomous driving technology.
