WeRide, a global leading Level 4 autonomous driving technology company, announced its plan to build its next-generation autonomous driving solutions on the NVIDIA DRIVE Hyperion AV compute platform at GTC 2022, the annual tech event hosted by NVIDIA.

Leveraging the power of NVIDIA DRIVE Orin system-on-a-chip (SoC), WeRide expects to accelerate the deployment and commercialization of its multiple self-driving products, including Robotaxi, Robobuse, Robovan and others.

“The reliability and scalability of the NVIDIA DRIVE platform are critical for safe and reliable autonomous driving performance. Having NVIDIA as our high-performance computing partner will boost the volume production of WeRide’s self-driving products, and improve the overall user experience,” said Tony Han, Founder and CEO of WeRide.

WeRide and NVIDIA have been working together since 2017, when NVIDIA became an early-stage investor of WeRide through its Inception program. The collaboration has since expanded to include adoption of multiple NVIDIA products, such as cloud-based GPU clusters and the NVIDIA DRIVE Xavier™ SoC.

“WeRide has made significant achievements in self-driving R&D and commercialization. It’s inspiring to be part of WeRide’s journey to bring this technology to market fruition with the help of our DRIVE platform,” said Rishi Dhall, Vice President, Automotive, NVIDIA.

WeRide has accumulated over 10 million kilometers of autonomous driving (“AD”) mileage on public roads with more than 300 AD vehicles to date. WeRide’s fleets comprise Robotaxis, Robobuses, and Robovans, operating in Chinese cities, including Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Shanghai, Zhengzhou, Nanjing and Wuhan; along with in San Jose, Calif., and Abu Dhabi, UAE. WeRide’s fleets are tested and operated day and night, traveling from central business districts (CBD) to urban villages, tunnels to highways, and in various environments including rain and snow. All of which contribute to an abundance of valuable AD data to ensure safe operation under a variety of conditions.

WeRide is the first in China to provide commercial Robotaxi services to the public since 2019, providing more than 350,000 rides for over 180,000 passengers since it started operations. In January 2022, WeRide launched its fully driverless Robobus trial service to the public in Guangzhou.
